Today is a special day around here because it’s Shiloh’s third birthday!
When you’re a new mom, everyone tells you to savor the moments. “It goes by so fast!” and “It will be over in the blink of an eye…” All common words shared by other parents. And while I knew that they were telling the truth, somehow I still find myself shocked that three years have come and gone! The tiny infant I used to let nap in my arms is an energetic toddler, full of joy and life.
Surprising your kids is one of the great joys of being a parent. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get enough of the little gasps and squeals of excitement. So, early this morning, we filled her room with lots of balloons while she was still sleeping. Then we went back and watched her wake up on the baby monitor. When she started getting out of bed, we crept in and sang her “happy birthday”.
Shawn and Shiloh cuddled and watched cartoons on the couch while I got breakfast and coffee ready. Then we led her into the dining room where she was so excited by the Minnie Mouse decorations, chocolate sprinkled donut and a few gifts waiting to be opened she could hardly contain herself.
So thankful that God gave us this gift. I’m excited to see what this new year holds. Now, more than ever, I’m thankful for my days home with her as I get to help shape the person she is becoming. I love getting to know this little soul more and more with each new day.
So happy birthday to my daughter, Shiloh. You have made motherhood better than anyone told me it would be. Hearing you call me “mama” is a privilege I don’t take lightly. I love you so much!
